Snotrag: Me too (dabbler) - I enjoy many books (even through my JW years) on the subject - "Dancing Wu Li Masters" was my all time favourite. I would encourage all to read this great book. As Arthur C. Clark stated: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." It would seem that the eastern mystics along with the Egyptians grasped Quantum Mechanics long before the modern era. How I despised the WTBS discounting of such writings as "spiritism" when they are clearly in harmony with quite a bit of the bible.

Snotrag: "Both/And" (Quantum) versus "Either/Or" (Newtonian)?

Time is another dimension in addition to the three we see visually, time is felt as opposed to seen. Like the three dimensions (width, depth and height or x,y,z) we can "measure" time. There is strong theories that other dimensions exist - even space-time is technically a diminsion we cannot properly measure but we can percieve it at work at a quantum level. Do any of you remeber the Simpson episode where Homer found himself in 3D world? That shows how our perceptions are framed by the dminesions we are in. Time is not a constant - Einstein's General Theory of Relativity was proven with synched atomic clocks that were split up - some on earth some orbiting - they were efound to be out of synch. in fact, communications sattleites have to "phase" their internal clocks in order to compensate for the spped of thri orbits.
Time was never created, it is a construct of our own conciousness and it is as fluid as a river, some fast spots, some slow and the occasional point where an eddy reverses the flow. As a believer in God, I see how multiple dimensions can exist and if you are no bound by 3D and 4D (time) then time is irrelevant and both the past, present and future merge. Interestingly, the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle states that you cannot measure the position and momentum (velocity - a function of time) of a particle at the same "time". If you could you would be able to predict the future with stunning accuracy. The laws of big things simnply break down and are no longer applicable at the level of particles. Therefor it is plausible that the laws that seemingly bind time at the level of big things will breakdown at the level of small things. Timis is, pardon the plagarism - relative.

How did you respond?
by Simon Morley inwe have not attended any meetings for several months now as we continue our fade.
how have you dealt with the nosey parkers who hold the territory that you live in and insist on "dropping by".
first it was the family that holds the card and then a coule of other familes as they work our territory.. i am tired of not answering the door (they know we are home) and need a cute but not revealing comeback to the "we miss you at the meetings" line.

Thanks Nugget: Yes, you are right - keep it at a very high level and not give anything away. I know that it must "puzzle" them and they are eager to hear what the reasons are, especially given that 18 months ago I was the COBE, CA/SAD/DC parts, on the DC Convention Committee and active in the RBC. We started our gradual fade in September 09 and stopped 100% in January this year. Easier on my wife, but hard to take the JW out of me I am afraid.

I would suggest that many are missing the point of the article: It is more about the cost and the underlying issues such as K-12 programs are no longer prepping kids for life - especially to study and learn. However, rest assured that this will be misquoted/taken out of context in future CA,SAD and DC parts along with appearances in WT and Awake! in various ways to say "told you so". How many R&F teenagers contribute to the 40% drop out rate by sacrificing their lives to pioneering in the last years of high school?
What was of interest were the suggestions for alternates to the traditional: Online learning, certification tests and occupational licensure could be relaxed to create opportunities for people without formal education. Which means more R&F not plugging the WTB$ meter. Therefore, there will be study articles that demonize these forms of education eventually. University and College courses have become more accessible not less and the increasing access to scholarships makes it easier for increasing numbers. In fact, given my high school grades, I would not be able to get into the University where I (long before becoming a JW) recieved my degree.
If they (WTB$) quote Time magazine, do you think they will also allow quotes from other articles such as JFR being called a "pontiff' or WTB$ fallability?

Encouraging Service Talk
by Nephilim ini remember a talk that was delivered at an assembly a while back that was repeated many times in my old hall and i remember it had a line in it that had one of those effects on people like they would go into a silent trance.
if you were allowed to "oooh!
" or "awe!

This is another one of those "pet phrases" that every speaker spouted as if they were the first to come up with it. I recall a demo some years back at a CA that had some R&F spout the same phrase. How many times have you heard "please keep us in your care and keeping" in a prayer - what the hell does that mean? Care is a form of temporary keeping...

Handbill for 2010 District Conventions
by dozy inthe wts has announced the usual handbill invitation "campaign" for the conventions this year.
i haven't seen a copy but i assume that it will be similar to the one for congregation meetings and from previous years.
the usual 30 per publisher allocation.. i seriously wonder about the efficacy of these campaigns.

My last year of doing this I saw it as "ServiceLITE" - quick dash around the territories on a nice spring morning then off for coffee and home by noon.

I have seen it twice now and it still amazes me. It does not woefully parody the Beatles but showcases their songs in a different way. The opening sequence of a bomb blasted Liverpool sets the context for four lads who got together and changed music as we know it.
Also, if any of you Beatles fans want to see a great biopic - "Nowhere Boy" about the early years of John Lennon up to the point he and the other Beatles head to Germany is a must see. A great performance by Kristin Scott Thomas as Aunt Mimi. Given his realtionship with his estranged mum Julia, I have a different impression of the song "I Want to Hold Your Hand" ...
